Part of the group went to the concentration camp Terezin and the rest selected to see the castle at Karlstein. Seeing one concentration camp in a lifetime was enough for me (saw Dachau in Germany), I went to the castle. Our castle group was leaving until 2:00 so I spent the morning with Huong and we explored Petrin Hill. During the trip I hadn't really spent much one-on-one time with her so I really enjoyed getting to know her away from the entire group. She has led a fascinating life from being held in a communist concentration camp in Vietnam, to her escape from village to village to reach the Mekong Delta. At the age of of 14 she was adopted by Menninites in Pensylvania since she had no idea what happened to the rest of her family
Huong and I went to Petrin Hill which is a large park located near the Prague Castle. We rode the funicular to the top. It has many beautfil rose gardens and paths to stroll. We climbed to the top of the Eiffle Tower for some great views of the area. Visited the old observatory and strolled back to the hotel across the Charles Bridge.
The castle was about an hour from Prague across some rolling hills and small villages. Once at the castle we had to hike up a hill about 3K through a main village road lined with tourist shops and fast food stalls. The castle was really one of the better ones I had seen with some parts original from the 1300's. The room where the holy relics were stored was really beautiful with its gold leaf ceiling. There were many places with original wall drawings.
Back to Prague and dinner will a few of the other ladies and topped off the day with gelatto.
