How interesting to get a different perspective on the historic event of 1956 in Hungary by a renowned Hungarian historian Dr. Czaba Bekes.  His explanation of the events leading up to the revolution were based on an analysis of declassified documents from the US government, Hungarian and Russian documents.  I now have more of an understanding of why the United States and other Western countries didn't come to the aide of the Hungarians.  The Cold War sure brought about a lot of tension in the world.

Following the lector was the movie "Children of Glory" with English subtitles.  I would recommend this movie to everyone.  It provides accurate historical information, a great plot, and a love story all rolled into one.

The visit to the House of Terror was a very sobering afternoon at this museum.  This building was used by the communist secret police for "questioning" people about their anti-government actions.  A visit to the holding cells and the torture areas, gave a glimpse of the type of questioning done here.  There was also a special place where executions in the form of hangings took place.  Thousands of people were questioned and blackmailed into spying on friends and families at places like this one.  The government control of the Hungarian citizen was shocking.

Off to pack for the weekend road trip.  Visiting a few castles and seeing the Hungarian cultural city for 2010 on Saturday.  Looking forward to seeing this part of Hungary.

No pictures from the House of Terror since photography was not allowed.
