3 years ago a new main road was built leaving the 'Death Road' to the surrounding villages and thrill seeking tourits. There are loads of companies offering the mountainbike downhill ride and choosing one is no easy task. Deciding on the highly recommended B-side adventures we were all kitted out (helmets, shin pads, gloves, goggles) and ready for the challenge early the next morning. A quick safety briefing and we were let loose on the road along with our group of 11.
The first hour was on a tarred road and once you had gained a bit of confidence you were flying. It was then time for the real thing as we hit 'Death Road'. Speeding along the hairpin bends, trying your best not to hit a ditch or loose gravel or brake too suddenly, you really were filled with adrenalin (frequent stops were necessary to calm the aching pain in your hands and wrists). One wrong move and it would be game over. It was difficult not to be distracted by the amazing views and waterfalls and you were often struck with the thought 'how on earth was this once a main road!' You could also not help but notice the many crosses dotted along the road in memory of the car accident fatalities as well as the 18 cyclists that did not make the end of the ride.
We all made it to the end safely and rewarded ourselves with a cold beer and the bragging right that we had cycled the ´WMDR´ (The Worlds Most Dangerous Road) - what a ride!!!!
