Drove from Moncton to Summerside, PEI. Stopped at Shediac, NB, on the way because my mom heard that there's a big lobster in Shediac. She likes big stuff. Hung out at Parlee beach in Shediac for a couple of hours before continuing on to officially enter the land of Anne of Green Gables. Crossed the Confederation Bridge and everything. Did you know the bridge has its own radio station filled with fun bridge facts?

Went to a production of "Anne and Gilbert," a musical based on the 2nd and 3rd books of the Anne of Green Gables series. I actually loved these books growing up, and enjoyed the musical, cheesiness and all. Turns out that the musical was co-written by a teacher at Wexford high school, which is in Scarborough not too far from where I grew up. My mom also knew the guy playing Gilbert.

Summerside is a sleepy, adorable, town. I really enjoyed the boardwalk; it's very tidy, lots of the stores look like gingerbread houses, and it's still small enough that even in peak tourist season (i.e. when we went in August), it's still not super-crowded and is actually able to retain its very quaint feel. I'm looking in your direction, San Francisco: Pier 39 is no longer 'cute' or 'quaint' or even 'kitschy.' It's just a crowded, overpriced tourist trap.

PEI is also a generally interesting place. They have red mud and a store where everything has cows on it.
