Today is Thursday July 2, 2009 - we arrived in Borneo on Monday evening, staying at a very nice boutique hotel in Kota Kinabalu. It was interesting at there were only 2 twin beds - standard for asia. We were able to get them to put a mattress on the floor for Carly and Joe and I were very company in the bed. We left on Tuesday to go to Turtle Island - the actual name escapes me but it was a short drive and then boat ride into the south china seas. We landed on the beach - and all went swimming in the sea which I think was probably 95 degrees. We rested and later that night waited for - and watched a green sea turtle lay 85 eggs, from there the Rangers pick up the eggs and bury them, we then watched hatchlings from a previous month be released into the sea. Everyone enjoyed and I should mention this was in a monsoon.
We woke the next morning went back across the sea and traveled 2 hours to a river in the interior of Sabah - Kinabatangan. Checked in, rested and that evening went for a 2 hour boat ride along the review we saw the Probicus Moneky - and Pygmy Elephants. Very exciting with the exception of running out of gas and being stuck in the middle of the Borneo Jungle at night on a river with crocs. Anyways they came to get up and all 6 kids transferred into a faster boat to get back. I did question Stephen on whether he was nervous about having all the kids go off in the dark with a stranger in jungle - his response was if Buf wa alright with it so should we. We did manage to pass the time by singing O Canada for Canada Day.
Today - We went for an early cruise - 6:00 am and saw long tailed macque monkeys, and again ran out of gas..must be us. Later in the day we took a 2 hour hike through the jungle - no animals seen with the exception of mud, leeches -- lot's of leeches, red ants, and fuzzy catepillars which are not good. It was a sight to see all of us with rubber boots and leech socks up to our knees for protection. I must say my least favorite of the trip.\
We arrived at our hotel later today - enough time for the kids to have a swim as there is a pool here. We will now all go to bed - only 9:00 pm but the days are long..but fun. Tomorrow we are off to see and spend the days with the Oranatangs.
Will post again before we leave of Vietnam on Sunday.
Kids are all well having a great time together - I am sure it will be hard to separate them when we leave.

Awesome!
Hi guys. It sounds like you are having a great time. What an adventure! The love the idea of seeing the baby turtles - this is right out of a national geographic documentary! I can understand the aversion about the leeches - I would struggle with that part too! When I was a kid at camp - there was a rumor that the lake had leeches - I wouldn't get in the lake after that. Call me a princess How is the food?? Can't wait to hear more about your trip! Loving the updates. Say hi to all for us! Bye Erin
