So Prague is officially my favorite city... so far at least.  The architecture is beautiful and the buildings are very colorful... sorry still no pictures.

July 19, 2008

Today I officially joined the Busabout gang.  We had to be checked out and ready to go by 8 am.... yikes.  The bus was pretty good.  I had met a girl the night before and we sat together.  The tour guide gave pointers on restaurants and places to see in Prague. The bus driver made a few wrong turns and what should have taken about 2 hours ended up taking 4 but I slept most of the way.  On the way we stopped at a concentration camp called Terezin which was for the most part un damaged during liberation (or just before liberation).

When we arrived in Prague I met an another Australian girl who was travelling on her own and we hung out for the evening.  There are an unbelievable number of Aussies here.  We had a traditional meal of schnitzel!

This hostel is the nicest so far and the first one that had a ensuite shower and toilet.  It was very nice to have a hot shower that did not turn off every 10 seconds.  Most of the busabout people had booked a walking tour for the day so we all headed into new town square to meet the guide.  The only unfortunate part of this hostel is that it is pretty far out from the hub of everything.  Evenstill the public transit systems in these cities make in really easy to get around.  The walking tour was about 4 hours.  Our tour was a Czech man so we got a lot of inside information about the history.  The first thing we all noticed was how many McDonalds there are here.  One on every corner in new town at least.  We walked through old town and saw the astrological clock and walked across Charles Bridge.  This part of the city is very touristy and there are vendors all along the bridge.  We stopped for lunch on the other side at a little pub and we had Goulash... very tasty.  They seem to have a lot of meet and dumplings here.  We are all starting to crave fruit and veggies.  The tour ended at Prague Castle which is massive.  I am however getting a little tired of castles so I did not plan to go in other than maybe the cathedral.

We headed back to the hostel and had a nap and then met up with a couple of Australian guys who spent the day lost and not able to see any of Prague.  We decided to check out Charles bridge at night.  This is what had me hooked on Prague.  All of these cities are beautiful during the day but totally different at night.  All of the buildings are lit up and there are people everywhere.  A must see in every city.

Today we decided to venture out of the city and we took the train to Kutna Hora.  There were six of us today which makes it less intense and okay if you get a little lost because then it becomes an adventure.  The information lady at the train station was angry with us and no one seemed to want to help us find our train.  Aparently it is normal in the more eastern countries to lose some of the customer service!  We  found our train and arrived in Kutna Hora hungry. We wandered around looking for a place that had an english menu on our way to the cathedral at the top of a hill.  Everything worth seeing seems to be at the top of a hill here!

Our lunch took a long time and we did not have time to go into the cathedral but the views from the top of the hill are magnificant.  There are so many trees here and scattered houses amongst them.  We then headed to the famous bone church.  This little church was decorated with human bones by a half blind munk.  It was very creapy but certainly worth seeing.
