Another day antother city. Well that's almost how it feels. Yesterday we drove our very flash car from Nice to Nimes. On the way we had lunch in Arles, where Vencent van Gogh spent a lot of his time. The wheather was bad, loads of rain. But guess what? Our flash Peugeot has automatic windscreen wipers. It checks how wet the windscreen is and automaticly switches the wipers on and off, slow or fast, what a joke, With the car going on cruise control Coen could almost turn around and play cards with us hahaha. The trip was great. For a large pert we traveled along the French Riviera. The Mediteraen Sea was very rough, a great sight.
We found our Youth Hostel in Nimes late afternoon. It is a cool place, run by some colourful people. We met a lady from Canada and a doctor to be from South Africa/Wales (long story). We had an awesome night. This morning we went to the Pont de Gard. A huge aquaduct, about 2000 years old. Very impressive. Sam has been studying classical studies in year 12, so he wanted to see what was left of what he had learned. The Pont du Gard is part of the Unesco World Heritage program and is very much worth a visit.
After the aquaduct we traveled back to Nimes for some more history lessons. The Amphitheatre in the middle of Nimes is also about 2000 years old. Although not a big as the Colloseum it has been maintained better and therefore a great place of interest. We toured around, but to be honest with you; not my cup of tea. I really loved the historical part but this thatre is soooo high. As still bits have fallen out over the years it is a dangerous place to be. I was very very scared...........Kids thought it was such a joke, mum walking around like a very old lady.
We walked from the theatre to the Maison Carree (the square house). It was a gift from Augustus to his 2 grandsons. It served as a temple, a house, a stable and a museum over the centuries. Nowadays the centre of the building is showing a 3D show about the heroes of Nimes over the centuries. I very much enjoyed this.
It had became quite cold and it started to rain as we came out of the temple. So time to find the car and go "home". We are taking it easy tonight. More sights tomorrow and we will be moving to Barcelona YAY, can't wait.
