We decided to turn off of the interstate and follow the directions from the GPS. It's somewhat scary trusting the GPS because it doesn't know that we're driving a big honkin' motorhome. But we checked the route with the Trailer Life Directory routing program, which lets you put in your vehicle dimensions, and it sent us on the same roads as the GPS.

So we got off at Lordsburg, NM and tightened up our seatbelts!

The Old West Highway goes from Lordsburg, NM on US-70 to Globe, AZ where it changes to US-60 and continues to Apache Junction, AZ. There isn't too much happening along the highway in between the towns but the scenery is wonderful.

Around a curve or over a hill and everything changes. There are plenty of spots along the road where you can pull off but they're not marked and the motorhome doesn't stop too quickly so we only made a few stops. We could have happily stopped every ten minutes to take pictures or just
enjoy the view. But we wanted to make it to Tempe today so we promised ourselves we would come back to the area and spend some time exploring the entire eastern side of Arizona.

The drive got pretty exciting coming down out of the mountains. Sometimes the rock walls were right up to edge of the road which got them really close to us!

You guys are so adventurous. Richard and I would never last that long. We could probably do this type of travel if there was a train route or something.

Still enjoying the read ... keep it coming. Glad to see you have internet access :D
