Getting out of our luxurious beds this morning was so difficult!  Surrounded by pillow atop our fluffy bed we forced ourselves out, gathered our items and jumped in the car.  First stop of the day was Mud Island along the Mississippi River.  What a beautiful spot!  We took a monorail to the island that hung along some cables and traveled about 7mph approx. a half a mile.  Beautiful views!  Upon arrival we came across this huge replication of the Mississippi river all built in stone showing the different levels of the river throughout the states and many people (including us) wading their feet in the running water.
We then picked up some sandwiches at a mini deli and decided to have a picnic.  Walking to a little park with views of the river and a pool/pond right next to us, we coped a squat, kicked off our flip flops and enjoyed our sandwiches...cautiously aware of any bugs that may be crawling about us!
In the pool/pond we eyed a huge paddle boat swan that we had to ride!  After waiting 30 minutes for the people hording the swan boat we settled for the boring blue paddle boat-the swan was quite popular and we couldn't wait any longer!  This looked much easier than it appeared, we couldn't maneuver our boat and found ourselves bumped up along the side turning around in circles.  (see video)  We laughed our butts off though!
Have we mentioned the bugs?  (see pic)  So gross, that's all I have to say about that, the picture should give you the creeps that I cannot describe, just imagine seeing them first hand!
Last stop in Memphis was the historic Sun Records, we opted not to take the tour but took some pics outside and went into the gift shop.  Sun Records is known for signing many people like Elvis, Johnny Cash and B.B.King...among many others.
Looking forward to our short drive to Nashville we headed further East on the highway.  As we drove we came across signs for The Country Store that advertised it's fried green tomatoes, so when it approached we pulled over.  We were in Jackson, which was so beautiful, we walked through the Country Store that had a gift shop and an old time candy store and made our way back to the restaurant.  Ordering yet again, some good ole southern favorites: fried green tomatoes, turnip greens and cracklin' corn bread muffins.  We asked our waiter how people normally eat the fried green tomatoes so we tried his recommendations.  First, hot sauce, then with sugar, then pepper sauce and finally good ole ranch dressing.  Oh yeah, and Emily asked what made the corn bread "cracklin'" , it turns out they use huge chunks of bacon fat in the dough - nasty!  After lunch we took a little walk in the woods, it was so beautiful!  (see video)
Back on the road we made a mini stop at Loretta Lynn's kitchen, a tacky gift store/restaurant with loads of items and a huge bull statue outside.  We did not miss this photo op!
It's now the end of our day, made our way into Nashville - saving everything for tomorrows adventure - we are pooped but still enjoying every minute of our trip!
