This was the day I was looking for from long time.Today we were to trek from kulem to dudhsagar waterfalls.we got up early in morning by 6 after freshening up left resort by 7.we asked them refund Rs 100 they charged for TV as it was not working properly and the hotel person just did not listen to it .we reached madgaon station by around 7 30 and after packing breakfast of idli vada and mangalore buns we boarded the vasco howrah amravathi express.the journey to kulem was for 30 minutes.we had breakfast in kulem station and started to walk besides the track by 9 .

The ascent is very gradual as it is railway track.there are lot of streams flowing across the track.Forest got denser as we moved ahead.we started our trek from KM marking of 51/200.the dudhsagar falls was at 39/100.we had to trek for 12 kms.we had to keep alert of engine sounds as we were walking on tracks.as we were walking on tracks as there were less chances leeches attacking us.It had rained heavily the previous night.

the progress was quite slow in beginning.we just had covered 2 Kms in first one hour.we had wasted lot of time by getting down to small streams on the way.we decided of no more streams and started walking faster.By 11:15 we had reached Km marking of 45/500.we met railway gangman . he advised us to take road route which we could see from tracks.he said that road route is shorter than train tracks and would go straight to dudhsagar.

the road route was in heavy forest and wide enough for 2 cars to pass through.we went on for nearly 1 hour on this route.even this road had lot of streams crossing it and hence it cannot be used during monsoons as streams would be overflowing.By 12 heavy rains started to lash the forest .It was very nice feeling walking in forest in such rains.we had carried sufficient umbrellas and we did not get wet much.Rains stopped after sometime. It was nearly an hour now we had not got sonalim village which were expecting .we wanted to go back to tracks as we felt the road route was longer.

One of local biker on road told us that we can go to tracks from sonalium village and village was 1 Km from that place.we were happy that we were on right route.the forest was very dense and wrong routes taken ,we would get lost.we reached sonalium by around 12 30 .the village has only one family.Another person there advised us to take rail tracks to dudhsagar as in rainy season it was dangerous to take the rocky path up the mountain from the base of falls.the road would reach at base of waterfalls while the track would take us to halfway of falls.

After having a warm Mirinda , we again joined the tracks at 42/200 marking.this is exactly location of sonalium station. we had 3 more Kms to go.we got few tunnels from here.some as long as 400 meters .As we were walking in one of tunnels we heard sound of train approaching!!,we ran out of tunnel only to find out that train was still in adjacent hill.

At 40/200 we got first glimpse of dudhsagar falls.it was superb, totally worth the effort and hype it gets .from this place one can have full length view of dudhsagar falls.we were even lucky enough to catch a long goods train passing through the bridge over the falls.we reached the dudhsagar falls by 1:30 afternnon.mission accomplished!!!!

there were more people than expected at the falls.the place also had lot of monkeys than expected.fiona got a leech on her leg.On hearing this we jumped out and removed the shoes and to our relief found that no one had leeches.we went inside small room there which was  used to serve light refreshments like coffee and tea.otherwise we would have to fight with monkeys outside to cook food. one of monkey was daring enough to search a full bag which was left by one of tourists!!.

I had got a portable stove and maggi packets.hot maggi was ready in 5 minutes.we took a small nap and by 4 we got down to falls.it was worth all the efforts taken to reach the place.the water there was pure and tasty.we were actually halfway through the falls.we can see mandovi river flowing forest after from here.after some photo shoot by 4 30,we left for dudhsagar falls .the station is around half a kilometer from the place.

the trains are only way in monsoons to reach this place and hardly 1 or 2 passenger trains run in a day.there are lots of goods trains but they dont take us easily on trains.we had train at 5 in evening.this would goto delhi and that is only train to come out of the place.we were planning to goto londa and catch rani chennamma express to bangalore.

we were the last group of people at the falls .we hurriedly walked to station.the train vasco nizamuddin express was expected anytime.this train was locally referred to as "SUPER".train came by 5 15 .we were getting into one reserved coach and TTE  ,the travelling ticket examiner from another coach started calling us to board that coach. this was because there are no tickets issued in dudhsagar station and we have to pay "ticket fare" directly to TTE.No wonder he called us to board this coach!!!

we had direct ticket from madgoan to hubli and hence paid only Rs 100 for 4 people.we reached londa by 6 30 and one and half hour to passed before we could get train to bangalore.we strolled around in londa and had some hot samosas there.Came back to station and caught train to bangalore. An uneventful journey and we reached bangalore by 7 45 in morning.

undoubtedly this was one of best trips I had .thanks to barath, ujwal and fiona for making this trip a reality......and now lot of other trips are on cards!!!....
