Saturday 24th April - Nha Trang - Arrived off the bus and checked into an air-conditioned hotel at 6.45am and we needed the A/C at the time too as it was about 30C already! Went for a walk along the beautiful beach promenade to the post office. Arrived at a building that said 'Post Office' but we were told that this was not the post office. It was around the corner! So in we went to post our bits and pieces - got it all nicely wrapped and sellotaped and then they decided that they needed to re-open the package to see what was inside it. We couldn't send a cassette tape back cos it wasn't authorised and a ring that Sue bought in Bangkok a while back so we gave up and left-that's what you get when you try to post something in a communist country!!
We found out that in Vietnam when people from the paddy fields die they are buried for 3 years and then their bones are dug up and cleaned with rice wine after which the bones are placed in a box and kept in a house to where their spirit can return. People here can be very touchy feely at the best of times but not in a bad way. Derek was enquiring about the price of some biscuits and got thumped on the back for misunderstanding the price given! On a lighter note we've been to one or two bars (!!) and the tables and chairs we sometimes sit at are what you get in kids' Wendy houses!! Very small to say the least... Sunday 25th April - Nha Trang - We had a leisurely morning leaving the hotel for our breakfast at 10.30am - back to the Italian (Cyclo's) restaurant where we ate last night (It played the funkiest dance music we'd ever heard in an Italian and the food was superb). Breakfast turned in brunch as we lazed there before heading to the beach for an afternoon of relaxation. We bumped into Wes and Mer again (from our trek way back in Chiang Mai) and chatted for a while. The sea water was warmer than Hoi An though the beach and the town in general we didn't like as much as Hoi An.
