We had an extremely calm passage and after a leisurely breakfast on board, we got back to Helsinki station's left luggage office by 10:30. The plan for the day was for me to get back to the boat and do some chores, washing etc whilst the girls had a day’s shopping indulgence. This is largely for poor Julie’s benefit, as she does not have the luxury of a willing companion when there’s only the two of us, so she goes without.

The plan succeeded, they came back around 16:30, completely hyper but thankfully, had calmed (and quietened) down by G&T time. Dinner consisted of Elaine’s favourite 'Tart’s Spaghetti’ – Julie’s derivative of a Delia recipe of Pasta Puttanesca, or lady of the night.  Whilst this was cooking and as we were visiting the next day, see tomorrow’s blog, Elaine busied herself making  her signature ‘Blue Peter’ cake, whose ingredients I had shopped for, with moderate success, earlier in the day. It was a brave effort by Elaine, with no recipe and a new oven and it worked – not her best example but perfectly servicable. Well done to her. By now we were all pretty tired and as Louise needed to be on an early bus in order to catch her plane, we were in bed by 10:30.
