It was a grey, bleak sort of day when we cast off and set out on our next little leg of the journey, about 10 miles through the Lille Bælt and into the first fjord to the west, Kolding fjord. Our intention was to stay there a couple of days , as we have laundry to do and there is much to see in Kolding, see tomorrow's blog.

The wind of F3-4 was again, straight in our faces and once we were into the narrows proper, we knew that sailing was a waste of time so we reconciled ourselves to using the engine. The spooky thing about this journey was that it reminded us so much of the Menai Straits in North Wales. Both sides of the channel were wooded and had attractive houses and small communities on the shoreline. Unusually, rather than the occasional porpoise, we saw about 20 in all, sometimes as many as 3 or 4 together. This is not something we have ever seen before, usually they are solitary or at best you see two. However, just like the porpoises at home, they were pretty indifferent to our passage. So unlike dolphins in this regard.

We got into Kolding North marina around 12ish, and after an initial abortive attempt at parking the boat (it transpired that the poles were just too close together, we got a little stuck at the mid point but managed to extricate ourselves) we settled into a nice berth but with a very large drop from the bows to the pontoon – a 'borrowed’ set of steps from the adjacent berth solved the problem.

The afternoon, which became hot and sunny for the first time in a while, was ideal for drying washing and sunbathing - both activities extremely complimentary, I have found. The evening was spent blogging and relaxing, a good day, despite the inauspicious start.
