Once again it rained during the night but by morning, it was dry. We woke to the news that Paul had had a bad night, suffering from a reaction to the anti inflammatory pills he was taking for an eye infection. Now we had already arranged with Laura to come to pick Tom up, Paul had intended to stay with us until Thursday. However, he decided that he needed to see his doctor again to change prescriptions and treatments and as a consequence, our boat was empty again bar the two of us by 12:00. It was a great shame that such anticipations and expectations had ended this way, but it never makes sense to push things on a boat and Paul, who has spent months in the South Atlantic, knows better than most the importance of feeling well before you set to sea.
It was a little unsettling setting off to sea again at 12:15. We'd had the pleasurable shock of 2 days on dry land with company, followed by company on board and here we were again, on our own. Mind you, we do like it (otherwise we would have stopped months ago!) so it only took 15 minutes or so to get back in the spirit of things.
This time. With slightly less wind but coming from the same direction, we were going to make for the river Deben, a few miles further than Orford Ness, yesterday's goal. Unlike yesterday, we kept the engine on so that we could point higher and maintain greater speeds, so it was a tedious journey down to the Deben. We finally got on a mooring at Ramsholt, a couple of miles inland from the mouth, by 20:30, with 44 miles logged.
