As I am restricted to 5 photos per day on the blog site, even though today is all about the journey from Blyth to Whitby, I cannot not post a couple of photos showing the RNYC clubhouse, the Tyne, which we visited last night. Actually, as we used the showers and toilets this morning before we left at 06:45, I'm not really cheating!

Again and now with a record approaching 100% for the past few weeks, the forecast was wrong. It promised winds of SW backing SE 3-4 and in fact we had winds of F1 or maybe 2 at times, from the South. In other words, the poor old engine was busy again and we had 49 miles to cover today. Actually, the winds did pick up at around 16:00, ie when we were a few miles from Whitby. It wasn't worth changing anything, we continued to motor sail, entering the harbour to make the bridge-raising at 17:00. Basically, to get to the upper part of the harbour and the marina, you can enter at half-hourly intervals, from two hours before high water to two hours after, with the road bridge being lifted every 30 mins, on the hour and half hour A corner of the Clubhouse Bar

. We were rafted up against a tired and unkempt metal yacht called Kestrel by 17:15 and ready to re-acquaint ourselves with Whitby, starting with a pint of Directors Best for me in the Station Hotel, white wine and a glass of water for Julie.

Dinner that night was to be a visit to The Magpie, the current hottest chippie in town. However, when we were waiting for the bridge to open, a local yacht advised us that the queue would be long and that Royle's was better anyway, so we settled instead for a Royle's takeaway and a glass or 3 of wine on board, cheaper and better! We now need to mind our pennies as the marina costs ( we can't anchor in many places on the east coast) are creeping up as we head south - Blyth £18.00 per night, Whitby £26.00 per night. I tried to persuade the marina staff that CW is an 8 metre boat so I can get cheaper rates, but the didn't believe me....
