In order to make better time we get on I-5 and realize we have not seen this many cars on the road in weeks, and have grown unaccustomed to so much traffic! At the Siskiyou Summit (4310 feet) we enter California, another first for Denise. We arrive at the abbey on time and are greeted warmly by the resident monks who are all full of affection for our son Andrés, whom they've gotten to know well during his various extended stays there. We meet many kind people, especially his guide and master, who showed us around the rustic, peaceful complex and answered many questions. We leave after having tea under the pines, in view of the ever-present Mt. Shasta, uniquely impressive in its isolation. We leave the monastery feeling glad to have traveled the extra miles to come and visit these lovely people.
