Via Linz: After putting a route suggested by the Eulnest owners into the GPS we have had an amazing day. Up really early before daybreak and negotiated though the roadworks, before they were blocked off for the day's work. We were in rural Austria very soon and climbing up through a forest. In the first village we stopped off at a bakery for coffee etc. Doesn't sound earth shattering, but when you're so far from home, these are precious moments.

We followed the Danube through vineyards, beautiful clean small villages and came across a little cemetery (pictured) that must be the nicest place on earth to be laid to rest. Thanks to the local ladies who were tending the flower bedecked graves.

Further on a delightful winery in Durnstein. Up market and professional. The samples were huge… A bit much even for us and - it was 9am! (But of course, when you're on holiday the clock means nothing.) So our wine cellar is now substantial. The wines were very nice and prices very low. Should have bought more!

At the honesty box road side stall at the pretty house pictured, we bought a couple of punnets of fresh fruit and grapes. Great value and worried for some tine later, that we could have ripped them off. Don't think so though.

Pictured also - our picnic with the apple strudel we brought with us from Vienna and the remnants from our Vienna (Eulnest) wine purchase, beside the Danube. Fairytale stuff!
