With business completed there was time to enjoy a walk through the town. The steep hills test my stamina but I love to see the variety of buildings and wonder at some of their precarious positions on the hillsides overlooking the Navarino bay.
Later I return to Methoni and walk again, dropping in to the Internet Cafe and generally seeing who is around. In the early evening I take photos to friends and also arrange for company for work at the Lemon Grove tomorrow. Last night I had eaten at the Pizzeria which was open for the weekend, so this evening I will go to one of the restaurants close to the sea.
Tuesday 13th: Will it rain too much or not?
I am up by 7.00 am and out by 8.00 when the shops open. I need wellington boots, sturdy gloves, a saw and food and water from the bakery. All obtained easily with time to spare for a coffee and brief chat at a coffee shop in the town centre before I meet my workers at 9.00 am. They are waiting, even though I am a little early, and we set off, with a slight change of plan to obtain a lift from a relative with a pick-up truck. First stop is for fertilizer - 10 sacks seems about right to me; it is several years since I have been able to fertilize my remaining lemon trees.
5 hours later, we have fertilized over 100 trees, cleared undergrowth including some quite sturdy wild olive trees, vines and brambles, from around 15 trees and I've also cleared around the small farm house a bit.
We have no lift home so need to walk to the main road. Luckily the rain held off and the weather is improving.
