We arrived at the crack of dawn, after a slightly hair raising night bus trip from Uyuni. They couldn.t seem to get the movie working, so it was lights out at 8.30, reading was out of the question and the drinks served on arrival were still scalding hot as we hit the dirt road, almost guaranteeing some sort of spillage or injury. Fortunatley I had chucked mine down the chemical loo just before the driver slammed the brakes on and we skidded past and JCB coming towards us with cms to spare.
With adrenaline still pumping I decided to sign up for Mountain Biking down the world,s most dangerous road, afterall I could be dead tomorrow anyway.
The 60 km, gravity assisted ride form La Paz to Corroicos was exhilirating to say the least and am chuffed that I am still here to tell the tale. We descended 3500m in about 3 hours with sheer, unguarded drops into the canyon. the scenery was breathtaking. The road narrowed to just 3m at some places, we cycled under waterfalls and through streams, it was just amazing! I had to make a controlled emergency stop (getting used to these now) as a flying stone jammed my front wheel, the only damage was a mangled spoke, so all good.
Forgot about mozzies below 1000m, so legs were massacred by the little bastards.
We got back on the bus, hot, sweaty and smelly,. but couldn{t take the smiles off our faces!
