Well my homestay had been going amazingly well with Rosa treating more like a daughter than a paying guest. That was until the Thursday before i left...then donīt ask me what happened, but she totally flipped out on me!
There had been some confusion with how long I was going to stay as I had originally booked for 3 weeks, but changed to 2 way back in October, however the school hadnīt told her so for 3 days after receiving the payment from the school for only 2 weeks, she turned nasty. When I didnīt react, her insults became more and more unpleasant and personal, then eventually down right rude and aggressive.
Amongst the verbal torrent of abuse was that I allegedly had a problem with Argentina and if I didnīt like it should go to the other school in Chile. She also pointed out that she had a flag of all the countries of her students but she refused to have a British flag as she had a problem with British people. Apparently I was also personally responsible for the Falklands war... a rather mean feat for an 8 year old!
Over dinner, she was clearly out for an argument and making rather a lot of fuss about what time I was to leave to following day. She went on like a broken record long after we had agreed a time, so I said in Spanish "if itīs better for you I can leave now". Well that was it.. she erupted like an almighty volcano ...red faced, ranting and raging waving arms and finger pointing in my face. I said rather calmly, though voice trembling and heart pounding that I didnīt understand why she was so angry, but I didnīt feel comfortable staying there so it was better all round if I went. I left the table and threw my belongings as fast as I could into my back pack wishing I didnīt have so much bloody stuff and bolted for the door.

Refuge in Adrogue
Well the reality of being stranded in BsAs at 10.30pm with a back pack that looks more like a body bag was a little scary, but I headed straight for a Locutorio and made a phone call to Teresita who I was intending to go to the follwoing day. I Jumped in a taxi to the Obelisk and picked up the last bus to Adrogue about 30km south of the city centre.
I turned up in time for her daughter, Juanaīs leaving party where I experienced the local drink Fernet - good stuff.. and 'Fondo Blanco' or ' down in one' had so much of it that I was able to chill and wind down from the hair raising experience.
Hola!
Hi there, Iīm very sorry to hear what happened to you. It seems Rosa had grown an affection for you and somehow felt betrayed, and she didnīt use the best way to express her anger.
Anyway, I have a very nice spare room at home in case you can't find where to stay, in the northern suburbs of Martinez. It's a few blocks away from the train station, a 25 min. ride to Downtown, or also bus it's just two blocks away.
If you are interested please just ping me.
Best regards,
Vic

Re: Hola!
Hey Vic, thatīs one way of looking at it! And thank you for you kind offer, though Iīm pretty far away now in Mar del Plata catching some sun and chilling out for a few days. Iīm heading back to Bs As on Sunday before catching a flight to Rio at 5am Monday. Let me know if there is a good place to hang out in the centre for a few hours... with a big backpack!
Thanks
