..finally a day of sunshine, I thought it was never going to happen and perfect for a day trip to Tigre, a pretty riverside town along the Parana Delta just north of Buenos Aires.
Feeling a bit grotty as coming down with a cold, but dosed up on the paracetamol and headed off with a group of 8 others, my homestay brother, school chums and friends of friends.
This was my first foreign train journey since India, and altogether a far more pleasant experience. Train a bit grotty, but with as many beggars, tut sellers and musicians as passengers, but at least they weren´t offensive and one group of musicians had us all dancing in our seats. The return journey was 2.2 pesos (about 35p).
We took a boat trip along the Delta - a maze of lushly vegetated islands separated by rivers and streams and lined by traditional houses on stilts- a very welcome break from the hustle and bustle of Bs As.
Afterwards we headed to Puerto de Frutos an extensive arts and crafts market, dotted with restaurants and food stalls, where we had lunch and shopped before heading back. Got back just in time before the heavens opened.
