Having a pretty chilled week, trying to wind down from the chaos leading up to my departure, so nothing planned till Sunday when I go to my homestay family.
I have met up with Dan a friend from London who co-incidentally has quit his city job for an extended trip to S. America at about the same time as me.
The hostel I'm in is a fiver a night including breakfast and free internet access. Not bad as long as you're a heavy sleeper and don't mind cold showers. Dan is next door in the Mill house which should be renamed the ''madhouse'.. say no more!
This city just seems to lend itself wonderfully to aimless wandering and finding stuff to do. People watching in itself providing endless entertainment.
We wandered dow to the San Telmo area, where we were totally mesmerised by Tango dancers as we dined in a cafe. It left me feeling ''I want to do that". As time was short we got a taxi to another part of town, on the way enchanted by the noise of drums and chanting of demonstrators outside the government building. We jumped out to see what all the fuss was about...something to do with the futball team 'Racing'.. not really sure, but we ended up joining in - the passion of these people is something else!
Yesterday, we witnessed a pickpocket being chased down the street. 3 members of the public teamed together to corner this guy, one jumping on his back, another smashing his head against the pavement and the third assisting in pinning him down...The policeman on the scene, standing back, watching casually, only making the final arrest once all the hardwork had been done.
Weather is great, though the flash floods were a bit of a surprise. It was knee deep in some places, the Subte (underground) partially flooded. We took refuge in a cafe and watched the local news big it up on live TV.
