The Cali Zoo...
Entry 21 of 53 | show all | print this entry |
The famous Cali Zoo is our last stop in town prior to resuming our drive South. This impressive zoo features jaguars, tigers, lions, apes with many other specimens expected from a renown zoo.
Watching these animals, reflecting on our day in the frenetic city of Cali, it is easy to wonder what side of the fence are we really on?
Our hotel in Cali provided us with an excellent rooftop vantage point of this energetic city. A diverse collection of vendors, shops, taxis, bikers, police and people are similar to its zoo in so many ways. Combined with this city´s eclectic architectural landscape (old colonial crossed with Miami Vice and a 70´s Russian influence) and there is an odd feeling that we are the captives here, with few comforts from our natural habitat.
Just a guess, but being the only gringos in town only magnifies the feeling that we are in some way, one of the attractions to be stared at.
We get out of town with little trouble (except for the mid-town cattle drive that momentarily delays us) and are off and hope to reach Popayan by nightfall.
