Just a quick blog entry today, as Ross and I are waiting for our private shuttle from Managua to San Juan del Sur. We just spent an incredible 2 weeks in the Caribbean on the Big Corn Island, and now we are going back to the Pacific coast and return to the Park Avenue Villa's just after lunch today.
We really loved it on the Corn, and were sad to leave. We met some wonderful people there at Casa Canada. I can't say enough about that resort. If you ever get the opportunity to go there you would not be disappointed!!

Some of the best food on the island was right here at our hotel!!

Time to leave the Big Corn Island :-(

This was the plane we flew over from the Big Corn. It was a very nice flight , about 50 minutes with a very short stop in Bluefields.

Shortly after Ross and I arrived at our hotel in Managua, we jumped right into the pool at the Camino real hotel. If you are coming to Nicaragua this is a fabulous place to stay, check it out at

After we had a refreshing swim we went to the Oasis bar and restaurant that overlooks the pool.Dinner was delicious!! A light breeze was blowing, and the food was fabulous!

Walked around the grounds and saw lots of beautiful plants and flowers. This hotel has very well maintained gardens and..........................

Just for our Chicago buddies, Clay and Kim. It's a tennis court!! Yay !

I see this statue everywhere in Nicaragua, but do not know the significance . Anybody have any idea who she is?? I would be interested to find out more................

Okay, so it is time to leave Managua and drive 2 hours to SJdS!! I will be back tomorrow with more adventures................................
Hasta luego :-)

Marla on

So did you stay overnight in Manague after leaving the Big Corn Deed? I am a little fuzzy on that detail? Looks like a very nice spot (Corn Place I mean). What's Managua like though? Typical big city?

Yes Marla, we arrived in Managua around 5:30 pm yesterday. We did spend the night at the Camino Real in Managua. Then we were picked up this morning and driven to San Juan del Sur. We got back home here at 12:45 pm. Both the Casa Canada Hotel, and The Camino Real are first class hotels. I would recommend either to everyone!!

Oh ya , I forgot to mention . Yes Managua is a very large city, just over a million people live there. It is not the kind of city that you want to spend a lot of time in unless you know where you are going, and you are fluent in Spanish. Ross and I get in and out as soon as possible!!! Other than that it is probably quite nice, I dunno???

!st, We enjoyed our time we got to spend with you folks on Corn Isl. and glad to have you back home in SJDS.
2nd, I think (best I know) the stone carving is to depict the "Market Lady"
They are the ones that sit in their stalls and offer the wares & fruit, veggies, all sorts of things... many years ago the local artist from the Masissa market got on them as subjects and it has grown from there. Sounds good to me as if you go to any market in Nica you will see the market women much like these... they are the store keepers and sellers of the country.
