Last night Ross and I were finally able to make it to Danet's for dinner. This place is amazing! It is the # 1 rated restaurant on the Big Corn according to Trip Advisor. We were lucky to have found this place thanks to our good buddies Clay and Kim in Chicago for suggesting it. We have met another couple staying here at Casa Canada, they are some of the owner's of this fine hotel, and they are also  from Canada. So the four of us went to Danet's for a delicious lobster dinner, with all the trimmings for just $9.00 each (2 huge tails!)

Danet's has just 4 tables outside, so do call ahead for reservations! This place has really been gaining a lot of popularity in the last year or so. It is just like "mom's home cooking". There are lots of great places to eat on the Big Corn, but so far this trip, this is our favorite :-)

This is THE best restaurant on Big Corn Island. It is located at the North End of the beach, about a mile past Sally Peaches beach on the left.

You have to look closely for this sign on the road, or you may just drive by. Danet has just 4 tables and she prefers to have reservations, but sometimes it is difficult reaching her on the phone ?? It is definitely worth trying!!

We enjoyed our dinner  at Danet's so much last night that we decided to return there for dinner again tonight, Danet was making her signature dish called "rondon". This is a sea food dish full of fresh lobster, shrimp, fish, conch, cassaba, plantain. All cooked in a coconut broth and piled high!
I mean these servings are humongous!! There is enough food on the plate to feed at least 4 people, and all that for $350 Cords!!

Inside Danet's kitchen. Here what's for dinner tonight! It's "Rondon" and it is by special order a day in advance because of the ingredients needed to make this dish.

There is Danet cooking the rondon. Her kitchen was about 110 degrees, but she was still smiling! Just look at the size of those lobster tails. Each plate had 2 of them, plus a huge piece of king fish, a pile 'o' shrimp, and a whole lot of other stuff I have never seen!!

This is the plate of food Danet served to each person!! OMG! enough for a small army!! Nobody at our table was able to finish, although Ross made a good effort! If you are fortunate enough to visit this wonderful little island in the Caribbean you must find this restaurant and come see for yourself how good fresh sea food can be!! Tomorrow will be our last full day here, so we will make sure to enjoy the rest of our stay. It has really been an experience, and is a wonderful place to come to take a step back in time and really get away from it all!

I hope you are taking notes! Or maybe getting a few recipes so maybe you can adapt some of of this Caribbean cooking for when you guys FINALLY come home - you are eventually coming home aren't you? Because all of this food talk is making me hungry! Looks good and you better not be getting FAT either!!! Just sayin!

Yes I have been taking notes! There is a very large Caribbean influence here. Lots of coconut, breadfruit, plantain.etc.......... We leave here tomorrow, and back in SJdS on Sunday. We are lucky we are not on the Pacific coast today, as a tsunami is scheduled to hit there at 4:30 pm our time today! So around 2:30 pm Vancouver time. I hope Trina is okay in Taiwan !!

Hi John,
According to my sources in San Juan del Sur nothing happened and the warning was lifted! Ross and I return there on Sunday! How's life in your home town?

John on

Life here is good but not as good as SJDS. I am getting another property ready for sale so I can build a place there. Hopefully it will sell fast.
