There is Ross on the steps that lead down to the water. There are many good places to snorkel on both Big and Little Corn. The entire area is surrounded by natural reefs, and a couple ship wrecks too!
So he is in the water, getting his fins on and waiting for Janice to join him.
There is Janice. Flippers in hand, she is ready to go!
There they go, looking for a good spot to find schools of fish, and maybe some corals??
When they came back from their adventure both Ross and Janice said it was a fun afternoon. They did see lots of marine life, not as much as on the Little Corn, however both were happy they went out.Janice had brought her own snorkel gear with her, however Ross rented it from our hotel ($5.00 per day)
After all that excitement Ross said he wasn't feeling too good, and went back to our room for a siesta.A few hours later he had taken a 'turn for the worse" and developed a high fever and was shaking uncontrollably . By midnight he was burning up!! He had been complaining about having some water trapped in his ear, but had kinda dismissed it as unimportant. So first thing this morning we called a taxi and had him take us to a private medical clinic just a few minutes away. It was a very unassuming place, looked just like some body's house.
Big Corn Island medical clinic.
There was a reception/Farmacia in the main lobby, and Ross was asked to pay 100 Cordoba ($5.00) if he needed to see the Dr. He was given a number and asked to take a seat in the waiting area. There were already a couple people ahead of us, but the wait was only 10 minutes. The Dr, came out and introduced himself, and invited Ross into his office. His name is Dr. David Somarriba and he was born and raised on the Big Corn Island. He left for a few years to go to Medical School, but returned to his birthplace after becoming a Dr. He speaks very good English and gave Ross a thorough exam ! It only took him a few minutes to determine the problem, and make a diagnosis. We left the clinic, meds in hand. Total cost of visit and 3 prescription drugs (includ. 1 free) = $ 15.00 !! "Piece of mind".................PRICELESS!!!
Dr David has a look at Ross's ear. Ross was very impressed with the excellent treatment he received from this Dr. He did a few tests, and even checked Ross's B/P!! (It's all good)
So don't listen to all those "negative nellie's" who will tell you there is no decent medical treatment in Nicaragua. This is the second time we have had to visit a Dr./Dentist while we have been here, and both times we were very happy with the results!!
We will be resting up and taking it easy for the next couple days until we return back to the mainland. Until later............
