As soon as the sun went down it got so cold. We settled on a chicken kebab for dinner and bundled ourselves under the blankets we had. When it was dark the entertainment began and we were shown documentaries on the big screens that told stories from the war. There was an army band that played songs that were popular at the time of the war.
The cold and the dark and the moving documentaries really brought to life the realities of the war that was fought here. It was so moving.
Around 4am we were woken up and shivering we stood in our sleeping bags as the dawn service began.
After the dawn service we packed up our things and started up the steep hill towards the Australian war cemetery called 'The Lone Pine'. We sat on stands that had been set up for the occasion and the Australian memorial service began.
The ceremony finished around midday and then we walked up to where the New Zealand service was happening and Chanuk Bar to meet up with the Kiwis from our group. When that was finished and we had had a look around we headed back to our hotel to wash up and get a good nights sleep.
The next day, as the tour promise, we were able to return to Gallipoli to tour all the main places without the crowds.
After a day exploring and learning more we headed back to Istanbul for our last night in Turkey.
