So, my last few freezing days in Australia turned out to be a little bit of a nightmare. The hostel I stayed at in Alice Springs, Annie's Place, ended up giving me a bad case of bed bugs! It was so awful... huge clusters under my chin, all over my arms, even a few on my face! So while in Sydney I chose to go in attack mode, and washed EVERYTHING with a special wash, and emptied a can of disinfectant on the rest. (this makes it sound simple.. believe me, it was four loooong, boring hours, I won't bore you with the details!) Imagine my dismay when, during my numerous flights to follow, I kept getting new bites! I was happy to discover that once I stopped wearing my hoodie in Mexico, the bites also stopped, so in the bin it went despite being a fave. In hindsight, I realized ironing probably would have done the trick! Oh... fingers crossed no new ones appear or I will break down!
Anyways, that horror aside, my flights to the United States weren't so bad. Air New Zealand is a wicked airline, (comparing now to American) with lots of space, and they always feed you no matter what! The entertainment was good... entertaining. I didn't actually get much sleep, it wasn't happening! So when I arrived in San Francisco, I fought the sleepiness and stored my luggage, and hopped on the BART train into the city... mission: Shop! And did I ever complete that mission with a vengeance!
A few hours later, I caught the train back and amused myself for about 10 hours somehow. This only involved about an hours sleep, but lots of time attempted to get in a comfy position that would promote sleep: it's not possible I tell you!
Anyways, I was not pleased when we were all boarded for my flight to Dallas (en route to Cancun) and we ended up sitting on the tarmac for an hour. The lovely woman next to me let me use her mobile (since mine decided to break for the third time!) and reschedule te connecting flight as she was.. then when we got there, turns out they delayed the plane for us! Oops. No worries, we got on and so did our luggage.
So anyways, I was never so happy to arrive at the hotel! Te agent had placed Steph/Curt & I in adjacent rooms, so I woke Steph up from her nap to let her know I had arrived.
The next day, we hung around at the lobby bar waiting for the group to arrive. Finally I spotted the familiar faces and flew towards Kristy to give her a hug.
Well, the next 6 days were basically what you'd expect- nothing worth writing about really! Our hotel, the Riu Tequila, didn't have a beach but it was a 5-minute walk away, and we were able to eat etc. at the Riu there. There were 27 people there for the wedding it total, and it was just an amazing week. I can't imagine not going with a group of friends next time! One evening we took a cab into town for a fire show at the Blue Parrot bar, it was really awesome! We also took the ferry to Cozumel one day, to be honest it was nothing too special since we just wandered around the shops. I behaved and only ended up buying a Corona cowboy hat and an anklet this trip! But WOW, these vendors are the WORST for harassing you- I couldn't even be polite anymore after awhile!
So, the wedding. We all chilled out in the morning, and Kristy headed off at 1:30 for her hair/makeup. The rest of the girls met up later, and all got ready together. Steph did my hair, it looked awesome! (my inspiration though :P)
The ceremony was quick and somewhat funny at times. The officiator kept calling Gerry "Gary" and we all had to stifle back a few laughs. I have to say though, I never thought I would be the kind of person to tear up at weddings, but I actually cried a little bit! We took millions of pictures, and had a good dinner etc.
It was already over the next day... since we got there a day early, unfortunately we had to leave early too! Kristy came to wave me off, and I ran into Steph and Curt in the airport.
Once again, I silently cursed American Airlines as I literally had to run to make my connection. Thankfully I made it, luggage and all. So, now I am rested and ready to take on San Francisco!!
