Sex and the City came out on June 5th here in Australia. After months of waiting, of course I went to see it on opening night! I went with Emma, a girl who was staying at my hostel. We went out before the show for, you guessed it, Cosmo's! The movie was amazing, and we went out afterwards and had a great night.
A few days later, it was up bright and early for my first time in a week, to get picked up outside the hostel by my tour operator heading up to Cape Tribulation and the Daintree Rainforest, for an overnight stay. I sat next to a really nice English guy, and we chatted as best we could while our bus driving kept up his endless (seriously, it NEVER stopped) chatter about everything and anything, including everything you never wanted to know about sugarcane.
Our first stop was Mossman Gorge, where we took a short walk to a swimming hole but nobody actually got furthur than a toe into the water. it IS winter, after all! Then we stopped at the Mot Alexandra lookout, which had some amazing views over the area. We also stopped at a wildlife park for a short wander around, to see some crocs and birds, snakes and possums. Just before arriving into Cape Trib, we went on a rainforest walk, which again took forever due to all the endless chatter.
Shortly afterwards, we were dropped off at our accom. I was super tired from the early wakeup, so I decided to just laze out and read/nap. Then, it started POURING. I don't know why I expected anything else, considered we were actually IN the rainforest. So the afternoon was a write off!
At dinnertime, I headed to the cafe. I didn't realize the supermarket was 3kms away, since I was given some false information by the person who had booked my tour, so I had no choice. I ended up eating with an American girl who is doing a semester in Sydney, and we just chatted away all night.
In the morning, the sky was still full of clouds, so I went for a short walk along the beach before more lazing around and brunch, before being picked up by the bus. I was glad to see a different driver! We stopped for some "fresh" ice cream which was not so fresh, and then after crossing back over the river, we were off to go on a Daintree River Cruise. The cruise was excellent! We saw an adult and baby croc (separately), lots of snakes in trees, birds and even a tree frog that lives on the boat!! On the way back to Cairns, we "went" to Port Douglas which consisted of a very short drive through the downtown area, and 2 minutes on the overcast beach to take a photo or two.
Overall the was ok, but would have been better off just doing a day trip! But it was nice to get out of Cairns.
