Friday (April 25) was ANZAC day, a big national holiday here in Australia. (ANZAC is for Austrlia & NZ Army Corps) so its the equivalent of our remembrance day, except its actually public holiay. Since alot of places were closed, or opened shortened hours, Anita & I decided to prepare picnic lunch and head to the Fitzroy gardens for a relaxed day. Of course, about 5 minutes after we get to the park, out come the clouds for the rest of the entire day! The gardens were really cool, fountains, a mini tudor village (it couldn't touch Cullen Gardens at home!), etc etc. We saw a couple bridges wandering around getting photos as well!

Saturday was our final day in Melbourne. We went to the MCG (Melbourne Cricket ground) to watch Carlton v Adelaide footy match, Anita's first game. Unfortuntely, the team we were cheering for (carlton) got their asses kicked! We wandered back to the hostel and packed in a mad rush opera house
opera house
. Well, I did anyways since for some reason I was thinking our us was an hour earlier. Anyways, we hopped on the tram with our piles of stuff (my package home as well, since the post is closed on Saturdays! That was special to NZ i guess!).15 hours later we arrived in Sydney, not well rested at all! We had a wander around to a couple different parks, but were too tired to do much else.

yesterday was the big day! the one we have been waiting for! The day where we got to see the Sydney Harbour in all it's glory, with views of both the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House! We basically walked forever... all the way up to Mrs. Maqueries chair (I'm not sure if there actually is a chair or we just didn't see it?) to get the classic photo poses, then down through the Botanical gardens up to the Opera House itself. There were signs instructing us to hug trees in the gardens, so we did just that! Then, ALL the way through the central city to meet up with one of my road-trip buddies from way back in November! We had drinks, dinner, and then back to King's Cross (our home for the week) for more drinks. King's Cross is an interesting place- loads of crazies and hookers.. even during the day! But it's all good, especially since I'm with someone here at all times. It's definitely an experience that is for sure!

Gill's boyfriend is heading home today, so it'll likely be the three of us from now on. We are going stay here until Monday, we are currently planning our stops up the coast, and looking for work in exchange for accommodation, which is harder than you would think for 3 people!!

Hostels
Hey! Sydney is great! It's no Melbourne of course but it's still a good time. I spent a little over a month there and can suggest some good hostels to look into for work if you're interested:

If you want to stay in the Kings cross area you could try D*lux, Funkhouse(I think that's the name of the hostel it's right across the street of the D*lux) or I heard good things about Mates place.

The hostel I adore is the Harbour City Backpackers and that's close to Kings Cross but not actually on it. It's right across from Domain park on Wooloomoloo (that's probably spelt wrong). They usually hire alot of people for alot of different things. There's an activity director, they need people to make pancakes every morning, and of course the usual housekeeping.

Good luck with your search!
