Hmmm.. so what have I been up to these past days?

Happy New Years to everyone! I worked the whole day, but managed to drink enough caffeine (I think I'm a bit.. ok, a LOT addicted to the stuff!) to stay up and have a good night. Myself, Darilynn, her brother, and Debs from the hostel went bar hopping down Courtenay Place. What a difference from Toronto... we only had to pay $25 in cover fees for three bars, and two were free! Definite bargain. We rang in the actually New Year at Kitties, one of the faves. We had an awesome night, it was the most packed that I have seen Courtenay yet.

One thing I've been focusing on is the big visit... my Mom & Dad are going to come and spend about 2 and a half weeks exploring New Zealand with me (Wellington and the South Island). I've been busy planning the best itinerary to cram as much of the big sights in as possible, while trying not to spend half of the time in a car. I've also taken over research for accommodation, activities, and the rental car. Basically, all they have to do is fork over the credit card!

Work goes as usual. I am really starting to go a little stir-crazy while I'm there! I've always complained (well, maybe that word is a bit strong!) about how hygiene is so repetitive and you do the same thing all day, every day. Well, this job definitely takes the cake. Especially right now, my ward is very slow... the amount of free time that I have (but shouldn't!) is ridiculous. I am down on the other ward with the other Food Service Assistant so often, the nurses there started asking me if I was working there too! Oops.

I'm also getting a little bit worried too about getting my back pay... when I got the job, they told me I would be started on a lower rate for a week or two, until paperwork went through to change it to a higher rate, about $2 per hour difference. Then I would also get back paid for all the hours I had worked, so I'd essentially be earning the higher rate the whole time. Well, 6 weeks in and we haven't seen a cent of that. With only 4-5 weeks to go, I'm starting to get a little worried/upset. In 10 weeks it'll be about $700 or so that they owe me if they end up screwing me over! I really need to get on them for that.

The weather has actually been fairly nice lately, and I've spent a few days on the beach building up the tan again. Although its boring going by yourself... I'm always afraid to jump in the water and leave my stuff (especially my new baby, my iPod!) unattended. I need to go to the customs office to try and get back the majority of the money I had to pay them to release my laptop. I went in yesterday but I need to return with proof of my exit from NZ, and my passport containing my work visa to further prove that yes, I am leaving, and of course I'm taking the laptop with me!

I also saw I am Legend Tuesday night... not my usual type of movie but it was actually quite decent, and lets be honest, Will Smith is looking good!!
