Yesterday Kayla and I did the kayak tour of the bay. It was chilly getting into the kayak, sticking your feet in the water and all! We went around the main island off paihia beach (that is not the official name, it is some complicated maori name), where we stopped on a beach for a cup of tea and to search for some shells. Our guide, Rick, showed us a "ring" he had which was actually a seashell that had washed up. We had a look around, Kayla had all the luck, I didn't find any. Then we went to some rocks where we had a hard time picking mussels! Rick basically ended up pushing my kayak up onto one so I could sit and get some good ones, the ones I got were monsters! At one point though, Kayla and I were bashing into each other, stuck, and the waves washed right over (and into!) my kayak so I was sitting in a puddle of water. I was totally soaked when we got out (as were my shoes in the back!).
We went back to the hostel and steamed them up, we just ate them plain since we didn't have anything to put on them. Then I made the trek to Cap'n Bobs Beach house, which was about a 20 minute walk (at least with my pack anyways!). Its a really cool place, its fairly small (27 beds) and just like a big house actually. I will be here until Monday, cleaning for accomodation. (I already did my cleaning for the morning.. since there are only 3 of us here at the mo, it really wasn't so bad! Just like cleaning at home anyways.. when I actually do it). There is an Irish girl here, Edel, so we are going to go for a wander today (she has a car!) to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, and possibly a hike to Huraru falls. Sunday, I am going to do a dolphin cruise of the bay. Then, on Monday I'll be heading back to Auckland. I am debating if I want to stay an extra day and do a day trip to Waiheke Island (which Kristy says is very good!) We'll see, because after that it is on to Cathedral Cove with the Hot Water beach, where you dig your own little hot pool in the sand.
Well, not too much else exciting going on.
XOXO
