Quaint little town. We are staying in a large backpackers filled with holidaying Italians, mainly cyclists on their tour around Italy. The hostel is closed from 10.00am through to 4.00pm, We only just coped with the 8.00am breakfast.
This is a very sleepy town, we wonder what the people do for work. We wanted to see the sights of the town and were told to go and see the Castle. We walked throught the maze of streets and eventually found the Castle on the top of the hill but it was fenced off, as usual doing restoration work on it, like every big thing we have wanted to see on our trip.
So with that we took off to the next town towards Sienna. Certaldo was a lovely typical Italian town, It had a large medievel village above the normal town. It is the tourist area of the town. We took a funicular (tram) 300m up the hill to it, we couldn't be bothered walking. I did feel a little guilty, but we walked down again. A section of this village was a museum and was historically the main Castle where Church leaders hung out and ruled the Village, it was pretty cool. But... beforewewent in we saw these warnings about needing to be over 18 to go into it, we thought this was because there was some gory exhibits of hangings or torture chambers or something, but unfrotunately no, it was an exhibition called 'Seven' and it was basically pornography, such a strange world we live in.
The food in Castelfiorentino was amazing and really cheap, Stew and I had a large dinner of Pasta, Pizza and a dessert and it cost 11 Euro. The Pizza was incredible.
Off to the big city next, we are ready to get amoungst the masses again.
Wow we can not believe the number of tourists in Europe..... we seem to be surrounded by only tourists.
Ciao
