The train ride through the Swiss mountains was breathtaking. The mountains, lakes, little villages, we felt so lucky to be there. We stopped in Luzern for 1\2 the day as we heard great things about it. They were correct it is a beautiful little city surrounding a lake and it was surrounded by mountains. It has a old style feel about it and was very touristy. One of the main tourist attractions was a lovely wooden bridge going over the river that went through the city. It was unfortunately partly destroyed in 1996 by a fire, it is well restored though. It has flowers on its sides and the roof almost looks Japanese style, curved up.
In the afternoon we left for Interlaken, another very scenic trip. Interlaken is a great little city, again very touristy, lots of young people there for all the extreme activities that can be done, bungy jumping, skydiving, paragliding and mountain biking to name only a few.
Our hostel was pretty incredible, it was a retired very large hotel. The place had 4 pubs, it was definitely catering for the young travelling drinkers.
We went for a day trip up to Murren on a train, Gondola and then a tram, it was pretty cool. We saw Wengen Maxine, didn't visit though, we could see that it would be a lovely little village. We went for a very long walk up a mountain and saw lots of mountain cows that were so friendly we could touch them, they were so pretty with their big shiny bells. We had picnic lunch up the top.
That night we did a little celebrating as it was the eve of Swiss day, we didn't spend much money, but there were lots of generous rich Americans. Unfortunately we had a very big one. I came away with a shiner and a numb face. Ooops, I hope it isn't permanent.
The next day we took the train to Venice, Italy.
