Our flight and immigration to Switzerland was a breeze, barely a glance at our passports, no stamp and we were through. We were met at the airport by our friend Hans, it was such a relief to get out of the airport and not have to worry about how we were going to get to our accommodation. We were taken in and looked after by our friends Hans, Regula and their special Siberian husky Zaid. They live in a lovely area in the outer suburbs of Zurich next to a forest.

We made a few trips into Zurich centre for sight seeing and train booking. We were blown away by the newness of the city, everything is modern, clean and fresh. Stewart particularly noticed that there are very few cars over the age of 5 years. We did a lake cruise, the weather was lovely, we both burnt our noses. We were able to see the extremely flash/rich properties on the lake front. They had huge sections, traditional and well kept houses and many had little boat houses with a jetty, incredible.

Every year Zurich has a theme running through the city and this year it is 'Teddy Bears'. All around are large bears painted and decorated by shop sponsors. No two bears looked alike, two that stood out were a Maori bear with a Moko on it's face and a race car driving bear.

At one stage we were walking in a park when we heard a helicopter. We watched it for a
while and soon saw what it was doing, it was moving a piano from a persons balcony 100m onto the back of a truck, extremely bizarre, I guess it is because the houses are so packed together they couldn't move it manually.

Later in the week we made a trip with Hans and Regula to the mountains. Debbie and Bear

We went to a cheese making factory, Appenzeller, and walked around a little mountain village called Appenzell. It is such a nice willage, quite touristy but lovely traditional houses with lots of flower boxes. After this we took a cable car up Hoher Kasten. From the top we had such a nice view of the mountains we could see the meeting point of Austria, Germany and Switzerland. We were tempted to run down to Austria, but no, I remembered that I had not done enough training for this. It was cold, a little windy but energising. Stewart loved it and wanted to go skiing, but there was no snow. There were however, lots of cows, not that we could see them, only hear their bells. An amazing atmosphere.

Next we made a trip to Germany for about a week and then came back to Zurich. This time we caught up on the travel pod and tried to organise where we were to go next. Last night we went for a dip in Greifensee at Bad Egg, the place is called Egg and Bad means baths. We couldn't stop laughing when we first saw the sign. Basically, we went for a swim in the lake. The water was nice and warm, there were lots of people and we had a sunny blue skied evening.

Where to next? ..... we are still not sure, you will see soon.

Love Debbie and Stewart.
