At Breakfast, we were asked by guest house staff what we were doing for the day. Part of their method is to offer cheap rooms, and try and get money out of us in other ways. We agreed on a price, and had a motor bike and driver each for the day.
Our drivers took us out to temples, and only delivered us to the gates of each temple, did not accompany us inside. We went to Angkor Thom first, on way there, rode past Angkor Wat, amazingly spectacular. Mega tourist trap, with thousands of Cambodians selling their wares. They use their children to approach tourists, attempting to use the cute factor. Of the many temples we saw, one that most impressed us was Ta Prohm, a very large temple that has not been restored like some others. It has been completely taken over by jungle, and is one of the locations used for filming Tomb Raider.
Angkor Wat was our last temple visted for the day, when it was a little cooler (not much!!)It was, as expected, very impressive. We must have spent a good couple of hours walking around, dodging the hordes of japanese tour groups. They must be the customers of all the massive 5 star + hotels that are around Siem Reap. We have both really enjoyed it here in Cambodia. It is a lot different to Thailand. The people are very friendly, and although they are forever in our faces trying to sell things, it is not offensive, rather quite entertaining. Debbie thinks that the kids are just beautiful. Thanks to everyone sending messages, we love hearing from our friends and family!!
