It was a long flight from San Francisco to Philadelphis where we met Tom. A manager at USAir got us seats together for the rest of the trip or it would have been even longer to Rome.

The 4 hour layover in Rome nearly wiped us out though. Not long enough to go in to Rome but too long to be entertained by an airport. Finally we crammed ourselves into the bus then into the plane for the 45 minute flight to Palermo. It was very cloudy over Sicily so our first sight of land was when we came into the airport.

Customs was quick and easy, and our taxi was waiting for us! Boy was it hot!!!

We found the Hotel Joli, well the driver did. We spent the whole drive in marveling at how few lanes were painted on the street and yet there seemed to be 6 lanes of traffic heading towards us...some even in OUR lane. Apparently, scooters and motorbikes have no rules.

The hotel was quaint...especially the one person elevator. We dumped our stuff and headed out side. Okay, we got lost, but we found lots of closed shops, closed restaurants, and closed monuments. Never visit Sicily during the Siesta time!

Finally we found our way to a ristauranti that would feed us at the unheard of hour of 6:30...well, they let us sit down and read the menu even though we could not order until 7pm. It was good pizza. Better than the Chef-boy-ar-dee stuff we found whilst walking around.

Exhausted we returned to the Hotel and fell into bed at the late hour of 8:40! Not too bad for three people who traveled for a day and half to get there!
