The event began in the dark but it was not long before we began to see daylight. At every Kilo we received a colored armband signifying our achievement. I had to keep slowing down for my Thai friends. The had to run in order to keep up with my longer strides. Much to everyone's amazement one of the MC students came in 4th place in the 10K. This was a big deal. Many many photos were taken. We had some students receive a medal for their placement in the race. Emily, the 4th place runner, received a trophy and had to go on stage for her award. She was anxious about this because she wanted to make sure she used the appropriate wai (bow). She did just fine. The event provided water, warm soy milk, rice soup and fried donuts for breakfast.
Everyone needed a good shower upon our return to campus. The students and I met before lunch to discuss course materials. After we ate we went to the Kad Laung market. We all rode in the blue bus for a trip downtown. Bekah and Tom found really nice Thai attire for the Kohn Toke dinner on Tuesday night. I can't wait to post pictures of them. Angel has been the center of attention since we got here. We did not get to shop very much because every vendor and person at the market wanted to touch, hold and play with her. Vendors were giving her free food as we passed through the market. People even stopped us to take pictures with Angel. I really do not think she is going to want to go home. Between the students and the BCNC faculty and staff, she really does not have a need in the world.
Students were pretty tired after this event. We rested a little, ate dinner and then went to the night walking street. Chiangmai blocks off a main road downtown and vendors from all around set up shop. This is a nice market to buy gifts and at a very low price. So, the students went crazy as did my daughter and son-in-law. Everyone had a great time and is looking forward to going back next week.
