Everyone is excited that the weekend is approaching. The students really enjoy their extracurricular activities. This morning for breakfast we had a vegetable salad, coconut battered chicken breast, fried tofu, fruit, cereal and toast. Following breakfast the students participated in morning ceremony. I decided to stay back at the college today as I have a lot of work that I need to get done for the spring semester. The student speakers were selected for the day and the itinerary reviewed before the students left for their day of activities. At 8:30 the students went to the Vienping Orphanage. This has been an event that the students have been looking forward to.  Many students brought gifts to give to the orphanage. We also bought milk as a donation to the orphanage. Following this visit the students returned to campus for lunch. Today's menu included: white rice, sweet and sour pork balls, wide rice noodles, lettuce, green curry sauce and a green jello with fresh fruit. Pi Jip brought Som Tum, Fried chicken Sticky Rice and a dessert with a fortune cookie-type outside, whipped egg white in the middle with a shredded, sweet, colored-orange something sprinkled on it. It was all very good. The students were sharing their stories from the orphanage. It sounds as if the children loved their visit. Some of them threw temper tantrums because they wanted the students to stay and hold/play with them. Everyone has adorable pictures that will just break your heart. I will need to post some of them.

The afternoon was spent at the Psychiatric Hospital. The students watched a video and heard a presentation on mental health care in Thailand. They were given a tour of the facility and met a few of the patients. Following the visit a stop to the Bangkok Bank was in order. Several students needed to exchange money for the weekend events. Also, batteries needed to be purchased because after this weekend. We will be in a village from Monday through Thursday and we will not have access to modern conveniences.

6:00 pm dinner was served at BCNC. Dinner consisted of: bean sprouts and tofu, fruit, soup with mushroom/lemongrass/seafood, and chicken in a brown marinade. It was all very tasty. We left by van at 6:30 pm for the Night Safari.  Again, we had a wonderful time. The Thai buddies had been looking forward to this evening. There is a young white tiger at the Safari that you can hold while a souvenir picture is taken. Every year I have the MC students encourage their buddies to go with them for this picture. We then give the picture to the Thai students and keep the CD for ourselves. The Thai buddies are very afraid to get their picture taken with the tiger so we really have to cheer them on to make this happen. But, this year everyone participated. They were so excited to see their picture. We rode 2 trams through the safari. Everyone was snapping pictures but you cannot use a flash so I do not know how they turned out. The Safari staff accommodated our large group by providing us with our own tram with an English speaking tour guide. Once again the buddies got along very well. They were singing "Row, Row your Boat" and “Skimerinky I Love You”.  The Safari staff told them they have to stop being loud because they will scare the animals. So, they all used their whisper voice. It is a real joy to see these relationships develop.

Temperature today was in the 70’s with a light breeze. The skies were blue and beautiful. Sun was out all day. During the evening it was cool, around 63 F. Oh, to have weather like this in PA when we return home.
