We finally made it. I have to admit it feels good to be here. I was nervous about coming on my own this year but it felt like home upon my arrival. After 3 years, things are beginning to feel familiar to me. I still miss my family but feel very comfortable with my Thai family. We departed Taipei on time. The flight was absolutely wonderful. Beautiful skies and first class treatment. Yes, I mean first class. For whatever reason (and I am saying a God intervention), I, along with 3 other students, were assigned a first class seat. We were rather shocked but no one complained. The students started to show their excitement and I had to quickly get them calmed down because I did not want anyone questioning the seat assignment. Needless to say, I ENJOYED the pampering. The seats were controlled electronically including lumbar support. They were large, plush, super recliners with a foot rest. We were addressed by our names during the whole flight. As soon as we sat down we were served drinks, a snack and a newspaper (yes, the paper was in English). Shortly after we were in the air we were given a menu. We could chose shrimp or pork. We were also offered a liquor menu but do not fret, all of the students remembered the no alcohol agreement they signed prior to the trip. The meal was very good and definitely a step up from the rest of the passengers. I had a salad, rice, pork, vegetables, warm bread & butter, and a lovely cheesecake dessert. We were given warm washcloths, a table cloth, linen napkins, china, and silverware. Drinks were offered more often and were served in glasses. I certainly do not know how this all happened but it can certainly happen again.

We arrived in Chiangmai on time. We were the first through customs and first to get our luggage. Of course, Pi Jip and her staff were there to greet us Thai style. Wanda, your son arrived safely and was greeted by Pi Jip.  She presented him with a special Jasmine flowered Lia.She made sure that he had her phone number before she left the airport. After we exchanged money we were off to the college. The BCNC students and staff carried our luggage to our rooms and we were given some time to shower, unpack and prepare for dinner. We ate a 6 pm. Students were introduced to Thai spices tonight as the soup was rather spicy for their taste buds. Following dinner the students were introduced to their Thai buddies.

Boy can I see a difference in the BCNC student interactions. The students are more confident, more engaging, and more comfortable with their English conversational skills.I met Aj Brad, the BCNC English teacher from San Fransisco, tonight. He has been working with the staff and students with regard to the English language. I can see a big improvement in everyone. Aj Brad had a structured ice breaker for the students to engage in this evening. This year the buddy activities will be tied into their English class assignments. Aj Brad is being very intentional in assessing language skills before, during and after the program. I am excited to hear the results of his assessment.

Well, it is getting late so I should probably close my blog for the day. Fun dee kha (sweet dreams).

Hi Deb and students,
So happy to hear you had a good trip and are all safely at your destination. Wanda and students leave here in about 3 hours. I will migrate down to Eisenhower to see them off, too. Things are quiet here today. Senior Practicum was successfully launched yesterday. We are expected to get a couple of inches of snow tonight. It is sunny and nice out, though cold, so it seems odd to expect a storm--even a small one. Blessings to all and my warm good wishes to Jips and Maew. Carolyn
