Where I stayed
Frangipani Guest House
! Found a great little roof top restaurant “Mama’s”, where we had amazing rice and curry, with 10 dishes! All for a fiver between us.
The heat is almost unbearable here, especially at night, when Grey is a puddle of sweat. Sod saving money with a fan room, next day we moved into air-con! Gotta escape this heat and humidity! We wandered around the new town of Galle , where the fish market and fruit markets are a sight and smell to behold! Check out the trains and buses and plan to head back to Negombo for the final couple of days, nearer to the airport and gives us time to sort some washing out…plus we know of a nice resort with a great swimming pool!
Next we’re off to Malaysia to await the imminent arrival of Pam and Atik…
After a few days, we head off to Galle for a bit of culture. Galle is a fortified town, with huge ramparts surrounding it. It's great wandering around the walls and watching the huge waves crashing onto the rocks below. There were a couple of lads who were jumping from bastions straight into the sea, just missing the rocks below. They were doing it for money, but Grey and I agreed that we wouldn’t want their lives on our consciences if it went wrong! So we watched from the comfort of the Ramparts Hotel bar! Whilst sat in the rooftop bar, huge numbers of school kids were on an "education tour" of the city. The girls were all in their white school dresses, with their hair inn two plaits with school-coloured ribbon and the lads were in white shits and blue shorts; I have to suggest that white is not the best colour for school uniforms! The kids spotted us sat having a beer and then we started waving at each other, the girls giggling every time Grey waved! Then the young lads started, but they were soon sticking their fingers up at us – very funny when Grey made out he was going to run after them
