We have been a bit stuck here the last few days as the weather has turned very windy. The sea is whipping up something chronic and none of the boats are leaving this beach. Trust this to happen when we want to leave. Yesterday we went for a walk into the jungle and found a road. Well, I say a road - it is the beginning of one, just a dirt path really and only accessible by a four wheel drive or trials bike. They have bulldozed straight through the jungle, it made us a little sad to see all the uprooted trees just lying at the side of the road. When the road is finished (and it will be), this little piece of paradise will be lost forever and probably a lot of the jungle too as the millionaire's will come and build big hotels and resorts. I never thought of myself as much of an environmentalist but it does make you think deeply and maybe I should pay more attention to such issues. We both enjoyed our walk, you can climb quite high up and we got a few photo's but the sun was going down a bit and they appear a little dark but will probably look better on the computer.
I seem to have become a bit of the resident doctor as a few people have asked me what to buy for their various ailments. It is easy to treat yourself here if you know what you are doing because you can buy EVERYTHING (they even sell tramadol!) So I have advised them what to buy and how to take them and they seemed grateful for my help. We have met a guy here from Ipswich called Billy, poor bloke has a tooth abcess. He seemed grateful for my advice and I saw him this evening and he say's he is feeling much better.
We have booked a combination ticket to Ko Phi Phi. The only way to get there in one day is to take the night boat. Unfortunately the night boat doesn't always sail when the sea is this rough (although it seems a lot calmer than yesterday). We didn't want to risk it so we have booked the day boat which is a big one and always sails but this means we will have to stop over in Krabi for one night. We're not bothered, that canadian guy, Jessie who we met on Khao San Road told us Krabi itself is very beautiful. It sounds a bit complicated, we have to get to Hat Rin first by boat (not included in the price) so I hope they're sailing from our beach tomorrow. Then we have to wait for a taxi to pick us up in Hat Rin to take us to the pier in Thong Sala which apparantly is a half hour drive. We sail at 1pm then a taxi will take us from the pier to Surat where we will be dropped off at a tourist agency to wait for another taxi/bus to take us across the mainland to Krabi. Then we will have to stay in Krabi and pick up another ticket to get the ferry across to Ko Phi Phi the next day. I hope we'll be OK, I'm sure we will. It's funny - at home I plan everything down to the very last detail. I am enjoying the freedom of just picking up and travelling off with little or no plan. I find it a very liberating experience and not at all stressful. I have realised that I have spent half my life stressing over little details and what-if's when everything just works out OK in the end anyway. I am learning.
Oh by the way, everyone just ignore my map pin on the travel blog. I don't know what's happened to it or how to put it right. It doesn't seem to recognise some of the islands and has just gone haywire.
