Wow! an uneventfull drive that went according to expectations. The drive to Vilcabamba was short and scenic and we were off the road before lunch. Vilcabamba is a small peaceful village with an ideal climate and views to die for ...but to the contrary residents here are well known for their longevity, " they just don't kick the bucket". Is it the natural spring water, the peaceful living, or the climate?
We found the Hosteria and restaurant Izhcayluma, owned by 2 German brothers. We hoped to camp here and when we reached the end of the driveway we saw another camper, a couple from Germany. We always get excited about seeing other campers, maybe because we have something in common. Our experience is, at least down here, that campers/overland travelers have an instant bond. There is always stories and information to share and especially when these chance meetings happen between travelers going in opposite directions. Each party shares fresh local information, sometimes maps and definitely good and bad experiences.
So here we stay for a few days eating good German food, visiting with new aquaintances and attending to a few jobs on Eve such as; rotating tires, a good cleaning inside and out and a good tweeking here and there.
The weather is niether too hot nor too cool even at night. If one didn,t have places to go one could just stay here. I know, you've heard us say this before but there are such places and we are finding them.
Gillie is also in paradise with three dogs taunting her; a cute little puppy and the parents which are short haired pointers.
