We happened upon a vibrant downtown Cancun on Sunday evening. The plaza teemed with locals eating mexican crepes, listening to live performers, and selling local crafts. We took a leisurly stroll through the plaza on our way to La Habichuela, a restaurant that had gotten great reviews by all the tour books we checked out. Dinner lived up to it's reputation, except for the white Mexican wine... Let's just say that there is a reason Mexico is known for beers and tequila. We shared a delicious ceviche to start. I had an amazingly fresh white fish in the Veracruz sauce (tomatoes, onions, peppers, and capers). Peter had a beef tip dish that was simmered in a tasty brown sauce that melted in your mouth. The portions were enormous (plus I had eaten far too many chips and salsa with our sunset margarita). So we unfortunately didn't get to taste the desserts. But it was a wonderful meal, set in a beautiful garden.
