Well, travelpod fans, I've been accused of being 'grumpy' on my blog entries of late so this is going to be a very happy entry! No mention of genocide or child sex tourism here - no sir!
Yesterday I went for an interview for a programming job here in Phnom Penh - bizarre or what? A great job really, cutting edge technology and a chance to learn lots of new stuff, work with Khmers and generally get to know Cambodia far better than just passing through. After much deliberation afterwards, however, I decided not to go for it.
And this has made me very happy! There's nothing quite like a brush with employment to make you value your time travelling! Suddenly genocide museums seem like shiny, happy places to hang out in, compared with having to work!
Jenny and I both realised that despite all of our talk, when it really comes down to it we don't want to spend an extra year abroad on this trip. It was a good opportunity, but we just aren't in that mind right now. We've been planning the final details to the three month trip home, visas and tickets and all that, and we are both looking forward to getting back to Glasgow. I know, I know, we need our heads examined. Meanwhile, we're planning a couple of weeks of relaxed places like Kampot, Sihanoukville and Koh Chang in Thailand - another holiday from the holiday if you like. Where we can laze about in the sunshine, pondering our brush with employment, and thinking of you all in your offices at home...
