Seafood Delights

At the moment we are in a town called Miri, which is where that friendly company Shell started way back as a humble importer of kerosene and exporter of polished shells before taking the leap into the new-fangled oil industry when domestic oil was found here. I can't say it's all that exciting, so we've been relaxing and wandering about a bit and trying to organise the next step of the trip. Hopefully we'll be spending five days trekking in the jungle on what's known as the headhunters' trail. So no contact for a bit.
Miri's a nice enough city, with the usual friendly Malaysian types. We've even been recognised from the paper by a friendly food stall owner who then insisted on taking us back into town after dark from the beach for no money. This is not something I remember from other trips to Asia! The food at the beach here (Brighton Beach) is divine, and we had the best seafood meal ever the other evening - red snapper and crabs, absolutely fantastic. You go and choose your own fish and they barbeque it on a banana leaf with sambal sauce. Delicious...
By the way, Jenny has uploaded plenty of photos to her facebook here:
