After the Canyon Swing we all headed for Te Anau, which is a good base for exploring the area of New Zealand known as Fiordland. I'm not sure why they've misspelt it, especially as it's supposedly to make up for the misnaming of the fjords in the area as sounds (Milford and Doubtful being the most famous ones). But anyway, nice place. We went out on the town with the Brighton bunch for a nice meal and ended up in the Moose bar where Jenny and Tash excelled themselves with their dancing abilities. So much so that they got high fives from the locals - a feat indeed. Te Anau is surrounded by amazing views so the following day Jenny and I hired some bikes and did some exploring before heading for Milford Sound. This is one of the most beautiful drives I've ever seen and Milford Sound itself is one of the most famous places in New Zealand (not that I was aware of that before coming here). We camped here for the night before heading back to Te Anau the following day. En route we tackled the Key Point climb to see one of the more spectacular views from the Routeburn Track. The Routeburn and Milford tracks are multiple day walks that are so popular you have to book ahead months in advance to get places to stay, and places are also limited in order to protect the tracks. Again, we had no idea about these things until we arrived here and they were booked up until April so we had to content ourselves with seeing the odd highlight. Back in Te Anau, we had our induction for our Doubtful Sound kayaking trip, and bought in all of our supplies before having yet another early night for the 5am start in the morning...
