Okay so here goes. Sunday evening, a week and a half before we actually finally truly leave on this trip. It's been weeks of preparation, what with sorting the flat out (not to mention sorting out Howie and Sean), emptying our flat of stuff, flights, insurance, hotels, vaccinations, dental appointments (must have beautiful smile for travel photos), chiropractors, physiotherapists, and of course bloody psychologists. But it's done now and all that's left is the likes of this blog and deciding which albums to take on the mp3 player. Oh it's tough.
Having said that the flat still seems full of stuff. Why won't someone just come and take it all away? Anyone. I'll pay.
I'm not sure what I'm expecting on this trip. First thing to do when we hit Rio is to remember how to relax again - a skill I seem to have lost in the rush. I've got a pile of books to read which are probably about as heavy as all my other stuff together. Ah, looking forward to a nice warm beach to chill out on for a few days...
I'm not sure what to expect from this blog either. I certainly have no plans to spend any more time in internet cafes than on any other trip. I suppose the time spent on the old group emails will now be spent on this. But I don't think it'll replace the paper and pen diary that I'll probably keep. An outline of the route, some of the more interesting photos and stories, and sure it'll be a nice reminder when the trip's done. I especially like the mapping features on this site: educational.
Right, I'm off to make sure the magazines edges are all parallel with the edges of the coffee table.
