Day 2 (evening) - Memory a bit fuzzy...

I had never had the pleasure of spending any time in Ghent before, but it will definitely be on future itineraries. Tourists may flock to Brugge, but I have heard that when Belgians want to get away within the country's borders, they prefer Ghent. I can now see why. After check-in at the only chain hotel of our entire 20 day tour, we made our way to the old city center. It's a Friday night, so let happy hour begin! Waterhuis aan de Bierkant was our first (and only) stop. Situated on the Leie River which cuts the old town in half, it was quite the lively place with an epic beer menu and great vibe. After a short stint at the bar, a group celebrating a birthday departed and we pounced on their prime table in the corner with a great view of the action. I remember having a couple of low(er) octane brews, but a Gulden Draak (10.5% Bruin) and 3 Klokke Roelands (11% Amber) drafts later, and I have trouble recalling much of the stumble 'home’ to bed. I know there was the obligatory meat and cheese plate and we split a sandwich in there somewhere, but the all I really remember are how tasty those high gravity brews were. Photos of the evening are obviously at a minimum, but Day 2 was still another big win!
