Where I stayed
Hampton Inn - Philadelphia Airport
I said my good-byes to the Cotters...and thanked them for their hospitality. Have I told you they what wonderful people they are? And I was on my way to Philly.
I-95 almost all the way. There is probably a faster way, but I was tired of arguing with Jill. Sort of what I tell Sandy, "Whatever you say dear!!!" (LOL!) Little slow-down near NYC, but otherwise I made good time.
I decided to stop in Trenton, New Jersey; not only for gas and a bite to eat (was looking for a Subway, but found a local sub shop which was outstanding), but also for a little history...this area is just drenched in history. I wanted to see if I could find the place where Washington crossed the Delaware River on Christmas Eve and surprised and defeated a couple hundred Hessian (German mercenary soldiers employed by the British) troops on Christmas Day, 1776. This action probably turned the tide of war in the favor of the colonists. Cool place commemorating the battle on both the Pennsylvania and New Jersey sides of the river. Note, if you go there, don't take a wide vehicle. The river can only be crossed there via a very narrow (I believe 14 feet wide) bridge. In fact, there is a sign telling people if their vehicle is more than 6'6" wide, they need to contact the bridge master. It's a bit unnerving approaching oncoming vehicles. Most people bend their rear view mirrors in so as not to hit oncoming traffic mirrors. Never seen anything like it.
Then it was on to Philly and the Hampton Inn at the airport. Stayed here before when visiting Laura. Nice place next to a Chili's. That was dinner...the appetizer Spring Rolls...very tasty. I'll use the Hampton as home for the next week. Easy drive to Washington DC (for the Nationals Game on Monday) and the Baltimore Orioles game on Friday. Sandy will meet me here on Tuesday to visit Laura.
That's about it from Philly today. Looking forward to seeing Laura and taking her to the Phillies game tomorrow night...I think it's on Sunday Night Baseball...look for us!
